Family Feature: Meet Andrew
Andrew is a bright, cheerful 12-year-old boy who was also born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He loves all sports, especially playing sled hockey, wheelchair basketball, track racing in his racing chair, and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a recent thrill when he and his family were given the opportunity to join a Zoom call with the Eagles first round draft pick, Jalen Reagor. The call was held the day after he was selected and the whole family joined in to watch!
Despite some of the challenges spina bifida presents, Andrew lives an active and happy life at home with his parents and three older siblings. As Andrew approaches adolescence, the need for a wheelchair accessible bathroom that could safely support his needs and desire for independence was becoming essential.
Fred’s Footsteps was pleased to fund a grant to Andrew’s family so they could make these needed renovations. Their new bathroom includes a roll in shower and lowered sink with adapted hand controls as well as storage space and plenty of room to get around.
“Fred’s Footsteps has impacted our family tremendously and we are very grateful. Our new bathroom will be even more important soon because Andrew is having spinal surgery May 14, and he will need all the space to safely move around as he heals. Thanks to Fred’s Footsteps and your donors for this help.” (Andrew’s Dad)
