Family Spotlight: Meet Luke

When Luke was just 18 months of age, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His devastated parents were told the tumor was inoperable, and he probably would not live more than two years. They began chemotherapy hoping and praying for the best.

Amazingly, Luke has defied all the odds presented and is now 17 years old.  The years of chemo and other treatment have caused sensory, cognitive and other challenges; but by all reports, Luke is a happy, active young man enveloped in the love and care of his family, school, and community.

Recently his family began a project to expand their modest home to add a multi-sensory room for Luke. This will be a place where Luke can receive his many therapies and, because he requires constant supervision, can continue to thrive safely at home with his parents and three older brothers.

Luke’s family’s request for appropriate sensory equipment for this room was a perfect match for Fred’s Footsteps relationship with the Philadelphia Eagles as a non-profit care partner.  On September 16, four Eagles players made a special delivery of the requested pieces of therapy equipment and even more!  Family, friends and supporters enjoyed a “tailgate” party and Luke had a great time hanging with the players – all of them even managed to fit in his backyard playhouse. We were delighted to help make life a little bit better for Luke and his family.
