It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of Patrick B. Gillespie, Sr., a founding member of the Fred’s Footsteps Board of Directors. Dear family friend and organization advocate, Pat served on the Board for 17 years until his passing last week, on August 29, 2022, at the age of 76.
“We are heartbroken by the death of [my late husband] Fred’s most dear and cherished friend, Pat Gillespie,” said Sylvia DiBona, Fred’s Footsteps Board Chair. “He will be remembered as many things, but mostly as a fiercely loyal friend who was steadfast in his values.”
Pat held an extremely special place in the heart of Executive Director of Fred’s Footsteps, Christine DiBona Lobley, and her family. “When my dad died, Pat stepped up into that role for my family. As my dad’s best friend, Pat became the continuation of my his legacy; for that I will forever be grateful.”
Pat Gillespie’s career is marked by service to others. His 21-year leadership of the Philadelphia Building Trades transformed both the physical and economic landscape of Philadelphia and the surrounding region. He worked tirelessly on behalf of others, always focusing on how to have a positive impact on his family, community, and the world at large. “Pat had a tough exterior, but giant heart. He personified what it means to be a helper and put others first,” said Christine DiBona Lobley.
Our thoughts are with his wife of 57 years, Arlene, and his family during this time.
